At this page you will find a list of things you can do to get your Messenger working again.
A lot of problems are caused by viruses, spyware and adware. You can read more about how to clean your computer from those things here. If you receive an errorcode make sure you take a look at the corresponding article.
When you need support on something specific you can look if it is in our how to list. If not feel free to ask about it on our forums.
Below is a list of things you can try if the information written at the page with your error code didn't work or if you did not receive one:
- Make sure you always have the latest stable version of Messenger installed, downloads.
- Change your password into something different here and try to login again.
- If you have a firewall make sure it is configured properly and allows Messenger to access the internet.
- When using a router, you can try to reset it. Also see if universal plug and play (uPnP) is working correctly.
- Download and execute this file to register several dll files that are required by Messenger.
- Check your IE Security settings. Open Internet Explorer, click Tools then Internet options. Go to the Advanced tab and scroll down to the security section. Make sure that use SSL 2.0 and use SSL 3.0 are both checked. SSL (Secure sockets layer) is used by MSN Messenger to set up an encrypted link to send your password and username to the MSN server which then validates it.
